"BLAND BY NAME BUT NOT BY NATURE !"

Our 3^rd grades had a pleasant surprise last Tuesday the 11^th of May when Mr. Nathan Bland, Public affairs officer at the American Embassy, Rome came to visit. Mr. Bland was accompanied by Ms. Nancy McNally, Public Affairs program assistant and both our visitors certainly made an lasting impression with our kids.

Mr. Bland took the morning out to come into class and talk about the issue of  the African American Civil Rights Movement. Being of African American origin himself, his presence gave a real personal dimension to what the third years acquired this year. Staff and students were most grateful for his availability. It was a two hour “full immersion” not only of the English language but in key issues of human freedom and dignity.
